Technical Tour – Lavrion

Friday, 21 June 2024 @9am – meet at the conference venue

The program includes a guided bus trip to the city of Lavrion and a technical visit to the IPTO (Independent Power Transmission Operator of Greece) 150/400 kV closed type SF6 Substation of Lavrion.

The 150 kV part of the Substation includes the connection of the AC 150 kV submarine cable to Syros Island, which is a major part of the interconnection of the Cyclades Islands to the mainland of Greece. The cable is one of the longest submarine AC cables in operation and a number of technical challenges had to be addressed during its commissioning.

The area of Lavrion is where the Ancient Athenians had their silver mines from which all the coins were made contributing to the wealth of the city that was a major power up to the Peloponnesian War. Nearby is the famous temple of Poseidon on Cape Sounion which will be viewed in passing along the bus route.

The program includes a seafood lunch in a restaurant near the sea.
Transportation with guide is included with the Technical Tour fee.
We will be back by 4pm so you can plan any departure travel.
